Kalawao County, HI
General information for Hawaii, not legal advice. Nothing shared trains an AI model.
Kalawao County covers the Kalaupapa peninsula on the north shore of Moloka'i — the historic Hansen's disease (leprosy) settlement that operated under quarantine from 1866 to 1969. Today the entire county is co-extensive with Kalaupapa National Historical Park and is administered by the Hawaii State Department of Health rather than an elected county government. Population is approximately 75 residents (the smallest county in the United States), and there is no functioning county court — matters fall under Maui County's Second Circuit Court.
