Key Michigan Statutes
In Michigan, a landlord generally must mail an itemized list of damages and any claimed deductions within 30 days after the tenant moves out. If the landlord does not do so, the landlord may lose the right to keep any portion of the deposit.
If a landlord wrongfully withholds a security deposit, Michigan law may allow the tenant to recover double the amount wrongfully withheld in the right case.
