Washington County — informally known as "South County" — anchors southern Rhode Island. South Kingstown (whose main village is Wakefield) is the county seat. The McGrath Judicial Complex houses the Washington County Superior Court. The region is home to the University of Rhode Island (URI) in Kingston, the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (Newport is in Newport County but Naval assets are regional), beach communities (Narragansett, Misquamicut, Charlestown), and the Naval Station Newport's southern reach.
