Veterans Legal Services Laws in New Mexico.

Veterans benefits are predominantly federal, administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. New Mexico supplements federal benefits through the New Mexico Department of Veterans Services (DVS), which operates state Veterans Service Officers, a state veterans cemetery (Fort Stanton), and various state veterans programs. New Mexico offers a $4,000 property-tax exemption for veterans, a $16,000 exemption for 100% service-connected disabled veterans, and a state income-tax deduction for military retirement pay (phased in via 2022 tax reform). The VA New Mexico Health Care System is based in Albuquerque.
