Domestic Violence Laws in Nebraska.
Nebraska's Protection from Domestic Abuse Act authorizes ex parte and full Protection Orders against abusive spouses, former spouses, cohabitants, persons with a child in common, persons related by blood or marriage, and dating partners. Ex parte orders issue immediately; full orders follow a hearing and last up to 1 year. Nebraska also provides Harassment Protection Orders and Sexual Assault Protection Orders under separate statutes. Nebraska criminalizes domestic assault as a separate offense. Federal firearm dispossession under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(8) applies.

Authorizes ex parte Protection Orders (immediate, effective for 10 days or until the hearing) and full Protection Orders (after hearing, up to 1 year, renewable). Protected: spouses, former spouses, cohabitants, persons with a child in common, persons related by blood or marriage, and dating partners.
Separate order for harassment (stalking) outside the family/intimate-partner context. Similar ex parte and full order procedures.
Protection order for victims of sexual assault by non-family/non-intimate-partner offenders.
First-offense third-degree domestic assault: Class I misdemeanor. Second offense: Class IV felony. Third offense: Class IIIA felony. First-degree domestic assault (serious bodily injury): Class II felony.
First offense: Class I misdemeanor. Subsequent offenses and stalking violating a protection order: Class IIIA felony.
Nebraska's Crime Victim's Reparations Program reimburses victims for medical, counseling, and economic losses. Application within 2 years.
