Social Security Disability Laws in Virginia.

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are federal programs administered by the Social Security Administration under the Social Security Act. Virginia state law does not change eligibility, benefit amounts, or the adjudication process. Initial disability determinations for Virginia claimants are made by the Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services, Disability Determination Services division, under contract with SSA. Hearing-level appeals are conducted by SSA Administrative Law Judges, with further review at the SSA Appeals Council and then to U.S. District Court.
