Mississippi requires Certificate of Need approval from the Department of Health for hospital construction, nursing home beds, major medical equipment, and other covered services. One of the more restrictive CON regimes in the Southeast.

No Medicaid ExpansionMiss. Code Ann. § 43-13-107 (state Medicaid authorization)

Mississippi has not expanded Medicaid under the ACA. Legislative debate in 2024 considered a work-requirement-tied expansion; no expansion was enacted. Medicaid eligibility remains limited to categorical groups (children, pregnant women, aged/disabled, extremely low-income parents).

Prescribers of controlled substances must check the Mississippi Prescription Monitoring Program before issuing Schedule II–V prescriptions in most cases.
