Wrongful Death Laws in Vermont.
Vermont wrongful-death actions are governed by 14 V.S.A. §§ 1491–1492. Suit is brought by the personal representative of the decedent's estate for the benefit of surviving spouse and next of kin. Vermont's wrongful-death statute allows recovery of pecuniary losses plus loss of comfort, companionship, and society. The statute of limitations is two years from the date of death under 14 V.S.A. § 1492(a).
