Washington healthcare is regulated by the Washington Department of Health, which administers physician and allied-health licensing, and the Washington Health Care Authority, which oversees Medicaid (Apple Health) and Public Employee Benefits. Washington was the first U.S. state to authorize medical aid in dying via voter initiative (Initiative 1000, 2008) — the Death with Dignity Act (RCW 70.245).
