Wrongful Death Laws in Washington.

Washington wrongful-death actions are governed by RCW 4.20.010 et seq. Suit is brought by the personal representative of the decedent's estate for the benefit of the surviving spouse, state-registered domestic partner, and children — and, if none, for the benefit of parents and siblings regardless of residency (expanded by 2019 reforms removing the "dependency" and "residency" requirements). The statute of limitations is 3 years from the date of death (RCW 4.16.080(2)).
